CaSE Director Nick Dusic today led a discussion at the first 'Policy Lunchbox'
seminar, organized by the Biochemical Society and British Ecological Society,
entitled 'How to engage with the opposition and with manifesto development in
the run up to the 2010 election?'.

Associate Director Dr Hilary Leevers attended the annual Croonian Lecture at
the Royal Society.

The Science Minister, Lord Drayson, has announced the creation of expert groups
to develop further ideas on media, learning, careers, trust and science for everyone.
CaSE responded to the consultation and has met with DIUS officials and ministers
during the process. We will now engage with the new expert groups. We are looking
for a resourced strategy to come out of this process.

21/05/09 CaSE in Scotland
CaSE Director Nick Dusic today met with the Royal Society Edinburgh, the University
of Edinburgh and an official from the Scottish Parliament.
19/05/09 CaSE met with Professor Ben Martin and Professor Ed Steinmueller
at SPRU, University of Sussex, where they discussed the economic
impact of the research base and other key issues.
18/05/09 The Science Minister, Lord Drayson, and the Government’s
Chief Scientific Advisor, Professor John Beddington, today gave evidence
to the Innovation, Universities, Science and SkillsCommittee as part
of their enquiry into putting science and engineering at the heart
of government. Lord Drayson also responded to a Science Question
Time session. CaSE attended.
14/05/09 CaSE met with a representative from Science and Innovation
Group at the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.

07/05/09 End of science SATs
Commenting on the plan to end the science SATs Nick Dusic, Director of CaSE,
said “SATs have not aided the teaching of science in primary school
and a more appropriate method of assessment needs to be developed. To counter
the risk that science might be given less time and resources due to this
move, the Government needs to set out a clear guidelines stating the amount
of class time spent on science and ensure that every primary school has a
specialist science teacher.”

CaSE today attended a science event at the Welsh Assembly, hosted by the Royal
Society of Chemistry.
05/05/09 Science Education Summit
CaSE took part in the Scottish Government's Science Education Summit in Dunfermline.
Commenting CaSE Director Nick Dusic said, "The summit must be the start
of a process to make science a higher priority within education policy. There
can no longer be any complacency about the state of science education in Scotland."
