General Election Campaign
Collaborative Working
CaSE has been working with its members and other collaborators to make
sure that all of our work is as coherent and effective as possible.
The Science Vote blog
CaSE now has a blog - The Science
Vote - for discussion of ideas about science and engineering in the run up
to the general election. We already have a volume of visitors and welcome posts
from others – do get in touch if you would like to contribute a piece on
a topical science or engineering policy issue.
Letters to the Leaders
CaSE has sent letters to
the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and the leaders of the Conservative
Party, David Cameron, and the Liberal Democrats,
Nick Clegg. The letter asks them to develop and communicate clear policies
on science and engineering in the run up to the election. We will publish
the responses from the party in advance of the General Election. The
letter was also published in The
Times.
Joint Statement
CaSE has published its short election document, Building
our Future with Science & Engineering, developed with our members and collaborators.
This summarises the key issues emerging from the CaSE
working papers.
It urges the parties to develop clear and long-term policies that will
enable science and engineering to address societal challenges and build
a more robust economy.
Policy Briefings
CaSE has produced three working papers covering education
and skills,
research
funding, and science
and engineering in government. Our work
on these has been used to inform discussions with the political parties.
Prospective Parliamentary Candidates
CaSE is identifying prospective parliamentary candidates (PPCs) with
a science or engineering background, career or interest. We are inviting
PPCs to engage with the issues by writing for the blog. If you would
like further details on our PPC database please get in touch.
