“We should not take for granted the importance of the Prime Minister delivering a speech about research and innovation. His words at the Innovation Nation Summit today in Manchester carried genuine esteem for our sector and an understanding of the important role we have in driving economic growth and improving lives.
“He highlighted phenomenal research strength across the UK and expressed a desire for us to become the leading innovation nation in the world. To achieve this, Burnham also presented a challenge and an opportunity for the sector to embrace devolution, go further to collaborate, and drive progress that delivers for the UK. CaSE will continue to work with the Government as it brings forward proposals for how to do this in the upcoming devolution white paper.
“The PM also announced a few policy and investment measures that his government are bringing forward, the detail of which CaSE look forward to looking at when available. These included, £1bn of investment from UKRI over four years to support clusters in line with priorities in the Industrial Strategy, and the devolution of local innovation partnership funds to mayors from 2028.”
