Commenting on the announcement:
“I am delighted to have such a varied and renowned group of organisations join CaSE. We are only able to advocate for the sector because our members trust us to represent them on the issues that matter. When our membership grows it becomes stronger, and CaSE’s voice carries more weight. I would like to thank each of these five organisations for their support and partnership. I look forward to working with our new members and know that together we can advocate for R&D for the benefit of lives and livelihoods in the UK.”
“At CaSE we pride ourselves on our ability to shine a light on important issues from across the breadth of UK R&D, the variety of experience and expertise amongst our membership allows us to do this. With issue around skilled immigration, government funding of R&D, and regulation all set to be on the table in the coming months, it is a fantastic time for us to be joined by organisations that can help inform and support our analysis and recommendations.”
Information about, and comments from CaSE’s newest members:
Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK)
“We are delighted to be joining the Campaign for Science and Engineering (CaSE). Working together gives us a stronger, united voice to push for more funding in research and innovation. This will help keep the UK at the forefront of scientific discovery, and move us closer to life changing treatments and, ultimately, a cure for all types of dementia.”
About ARUK
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. We’re working to revolutionise the way dementia is treated, diagnosed and prevented. But we will not stop there. With your support, we will keep going until every person is free from the heartbreak of dementia. We exist for a cure.
British Neuroscience Association (BNA)
“Joining CaSE represents a significant step forward in our commitment to be the ‘voice of neuroscience’ in the UK. Our partnership will enable us to better advocate for the needs of the neuroscience community, shaping policies that support the growth and impact of research and education. By joining CaSE, the BNA will be part of a wider network that ensures the voice of the research community is heard at the highest levels of government.”
About the BNA
The British Neuroscience Association is the largest UK organisation connecting, representing and promoting neuroscience and neuroscientists across the globe. We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive neuroscience community, making connections between academia, industry, the clinic and wider-society, and moving neuroscience research up the agenda.
With over 3,000 members, we represent neuroscientists and allied professionals whose interests cover the whole range of neuroscience and its related fields, from ion channels to whole animal behaviour to real-life applications in the clinic and beyond.
Carbon Technology Research Foundation (CTRF)
“CTRF backs brilliant ideas that will transform our world and rebalance our climate, driving urgent action to limit dangerous global warming effects. We are uniting the power of scientific discovery, nature-based processes and philanthropic ambition to unlock game-changing biotech solutions to greenhouse gas removal.
“We know that science has the potential to make game-changing breakthroughs in this field. What’s vital is a funding ecosystem to accelerate those discoveries. Though we focus on the power of biology and biotechnology, we recognise the importance of all science and engineering across the UK and wider afield.
“CaSE’s mission to put science and engineering at the heart of the UK’s future is something that we believe very strongly in, and I am delighted that we are able to support it in any way that we can.”
About CTRF
The Carbon Technology Research Foundation (CTRF) is a philanthropically funded organisation that identifies and funds the best international research into new methods of greenhouse gas removal, which have their roots in nature and could be scaled significantly using biotechnology.
Our goal is to catalyse interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange, leading the way to unlock critical research, raise additional funding and ultimately develop transformational solutions.
CTRF’s rigorous assessment of research underpins its ongoing development of a portfolio of projects and by working in partnership with researchers of all seniorities; the foundation is facilitating the development of a research ecosystem around greenhouse gas removals and biotechnology.
There is a significant blind-spot when it comes to funding discovery research in biotechnology and synthetic biology and the world risks missing breakthroughs that could have a significant impact on carbon dioxide and methane removals. CTRF is highlighting this area with the goal of ensuring a once in a generation opportunity to address the climate challenge is not overlooked.
Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult
“We are very pleased to be joining CaSE and look forward to working with them on their programme of events and activities. CaSE do brilliant work to ensure that decision makers are aware of the role R&D and innovation play in kickstarting economic growth and the benefits they bring to the whole of society. It is vitally important, now more than ever, that we educate the public and continue to champion the world-leading science and engineering we have in our country.”
About CSA Catapult
Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult was established in 2018 by Innovate UK to help the UK become a global leader in compound semiconductors. CSA Catapult is the UK’s authority on compound semiconductor applications and commercialisation. CSA Catapult is a centre of excellence with state-of-the-art equipment that specialises in the measurement, characterisation, integration and validation of compound semiconductor technology across four areas – power electronics, advanced packaging, radio frequency (RF) and microwave, and photonics. Compound semiconductors will enable a host of new and exciting applications, helping us achieve Net Zero and ensuring that the UK has a resilient future telecoms network.
